Black History Month is here again!

Newham once again has a comprehensive programme of Black History Month events. We encourage everyone interested in Black History Month, either from the community or someone interested to know more, to find an event and experience what this month has to offer.

You can see a range of Newham Council Black History Month events here.

We know black history is all of our histories, the experiences of black people in the UK have been forged by Empire and the Commonwealth but go back even further. Black history didn't start with slavery, not to sound like a broken record, but black history is older and not always documented as it should be.

If there is anything you can do this month it is attending a talk, seminar, webinar, performance or reading a book you've always been curious about to get you going on your journey in the exploration of the Black British and the global Black experience.

We are lucky that many boroughs are hosting a diverse range of events this month to celebrate and share the contributions of black people and we are pleased to see that, it is our hope that this continues after October when the publicity dies down. Learning never stops.

Happy Black History Month!
